Inspired by Moko the Dolphin

David Hamilton

By David Hamilton

At Mahia Beach in New Zealand, an average of thirty whales beach themselves each year. Conservationists there do their best to rescue these whales by pushing them out to sea. This past week, a mother and her calf beached themselves and conservationists went to work. Unfortunately, the mother and her calf kept beaching themselves. Just about the time all hope was lost to save these whales, a dolphin named Moko came to the rescue. She guided the two whales past the obstructive sandbar and there has been no sign of them since! What an inspiring story provided to us by one of God’s creatures!
There are many Christians who were at one time faithful to the Lord but now have “beached themselves” and thus need rescuing before their faith dies. They will never be saved, however, if someone does not help them in their weakened condition. The charge of rescuing others in their time of need is found in James (5:19,20): “Brethren, if any of you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.” Let us make a sincere effort to help those who have “beached themselves” in their faith. Let us care enough to lead them back out into the deep waters of faithfulness. Thank you Moko for providing us with a inspiring example.
