The Slickest Dog In The World

Our dog Cali is an escape artist. She is little but oh so slick. We have tried to block her from escaping out the front door with gates and other things, but it has been to no avail. On Friday, just as Sarah opened the front door in order to leave, Cali ran up on the couch and leapt from the top of it, sailing through the air and landing on the front porch. Freedom was hers!

Now when Cali escapes she never runs too far but getting her back in the house can be a chore. And until we are able to get her back into the house, Cali puts herself in danger by running out into the street or running too close to cars. Thankfully, she has not yet gotten hurt while on one of her adventures.

Cali represents some Christians, that being those who choose to leave the safe environment of the home (church) in order to run outside where there is danger (the world). Whereas it is the
responsibility of Kim, Matthew, Sarah or myself for getting Cali back to safety inside the house, it is ultimately the elders who are responsible for getting back those who wander from the safety of the church. Unfortunately, there are times that Cali makes it very hard on us as we seek to get her back to safety before harm comes her way. In like manner, there are some who make it hard on the elders to do their work of keeping the flock safe. If you are in need of returning to safety and the elders approach you out of love, don’t run from them. Run back to the safety of a right relationship with God that is found within the church.
