Never Give Up, Just Keep Fighting!
by Steven Kirby
One of my favorite times of the year is upon us – fall! It is a time when the leaves begin to change, the air starts to cool, and the baseballs start to go over the walls. Baseballs? Yes, fall brings the all-important time of the year for the major league playoffs. It is the culmination of a long and hard fought season, and a chase to crown a champion.
I finally was able to watch a game on Thursday evening, and I believe I saw one of the greatest games of all times. You see the Red Sox were down seven runs with only nine outs left in their long, hard fought season. They were against the ropes, but they started to fight their way back. Four runs in the seventh. Three in the eighth. One in the ninth. They came back to win game five of a seven game series. They are still alive for another day because they kept fighting. They kept their courage and will to win alive.
As the Red Sox were in that ball game, we are against the ropes as well at our church. We could just fold up our hands and give up. But, now more than ever we need to stand up and fight back the devil. In Joshua 1:9, the Lord told Joshua to be strong and of good courage, and not be afraid because He was with him all the days of his life. Our church needs more than ever this same message today. We need God in our lives. We need to continue to turn to prayer. We need to hit a home run for Jesus. It is the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs. We are down to our last strike. What are we going to do? We need to continue to fight, and win the game for God. Let’s not give up!!
